Lindal Rohde's Retirement From WANL Competition
By Michelle Cox
Open Head Coach

In 2005 I was Lindal’s assistant coach for, what was then, Junior 1 HNC team. I remember her being the 'one to watch' her ability to read the play and pull an intercept out if thin air was beyond her years. In 2017 we finally played together at State Champs for Wanneroo, it was only for a long weekend, but it was a highlight for me. I got to experience, her skills on court, ability to thread the needle with her feeds and command those around her to elevate to a higher standard.

Fast forward to 2023, I found myself coaching Lindal this time for Comets Open. Lindal has this wonderful aura around her, she can read people on and off the court, she knows when to push players that bit harder and when they need time to be nourished and guided. I caught myself over the past 2 seasons just watching Lindy on court, in awe of her pinpoint feeds, intercepts with her deceivingly long reach, timing on the jump, fitness and agility.

Then thinking gosh she is still the 'one to watch' all these years later. The game has not past her, she is still one if the best and most respected players to have played WANL. Her achievements and milestones will be hard to match. It will be a long time until we ever have a player that come close to the level of respect Lindy has, not just from our club, but all the clubs and players that have played on or with her.

Over the past 2 seasons Lindy has respectfully challenged me, and, like the players around her, forced me to step up and go to the next level with her. For that I am thankful and appreciate the connection we have built. We have gone full circle over the 19 years it's been amazing - I still think you could have gone a few more laps of the court but I know there will be more adventures ahead of you and Danika away from the court. Thank you!

With love from Michelle and your Comets family
