Sarah East's Retirement From WANL Competition

Curtin Hamersley Comets sadly announce the retirement of Sarah East from the WANL Competition after an illustrious playing career as Club Captain and Open Women’s Team Captain for Comets.

Sarah started her netball at Northam Netball Association in the Wheatbelt and then relocating with her family to Perth. She played a few years at Southern Districts Netball Association and soon found herself selected in various state teams, WAIS, Western Sting, and the West Coast Fever.

After a year at the AIS in Canberra Sarah was selected in the Australian 21U team which travelled to New Zealand to compete in a 3-game series against the New Zealand 21U team. She also spent two years playing for the Hertfordshire Mavericks in the Super league Netball Competition in the UK.

Sarah is one of those rare players that has loyalty for one club playing all her WANL games with Wheatbelt Flames until they folded in 2018. She has played her last four years with Curtin Hamersley Comets steering our new fledgling club and imparting her court craft and netball wisdom on our young playing group, and it was a joy to see you play 150 games in 2022.

The joy you bring to a room when you walk in Sarah is electric, you always have a smile and a kind word of encouragement for anyone that crosses your path. We love that you have the passion for our club and this is something that is going to be sadly missed. We will miss your very crafty screens, roll offs, post ups, huge swings from one side to the other and most of all your shooting accuracy.

From all your Comets family and I dare say all your hundreds of friends in netball, congratulations on a stellar netball career. We are so proud to have had you as our first on court leader, we also look forward to having you join training and games whenever you can as a specialist coach and continue to share your knowledge.

Thank you for your service Sarah and best wishes for a well earned retirement Easty.

With love from Lynni and our Comets family
